Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (President Jiho Jang) announced that five CUFS students from the Departments of English, Japanese, and Korean participated in the 2025 International Summer Seminar hosted by Niigata Prefectural University in Japan.
Niigata Prefectural University has been expanding cooperation with universities worldwide to promote regional development and foster global talent, marking this year as the 10th annual seminar. Representing CUFS were Sanghee Kim (Department of English), Junghwa Ko, Jaehyung Kim, and Solbin Kim (Department of Japanese), and Soonhwa Oh (Department of Korean). Under the theme “Building Sustainable Local Communities in the Global Era”, the students engaged in academic and cultural exchanges to broaden their international perspectives.
From August 5 (Tuesday) to August 8 (Friday), the CUFS students joined over 50 participants from 10 universities across seven countries. During the four-day seminar, they explored Niigata’s industries, history, and culture. Site visits included a rice snack manufacturer, a paint company producing materials for electronic components, a traditional cutlery workshop, and a historic sake brewery. They also toured cultural landmarks such as Yahiko Shrine and Sado Island, gaining deeper insight into the region’s heritage.
The seminar culminated in group discussions and presentations on “Sustainable Development Strategies for Niigata.” Students proposed diverse ideas such as expanding industries by linking rice and metal production and fostering an art city built on metal resources. Discussions and presentations were conducted in both English and Japanese, fostering genuine intercultural collaboration.
One CUFS student who took part in the program shared:
“Through this seminar, I was able to not only learn about Niigata’s industries and traditions, but also work closely with students from different cultural backgrounds. It truly opened my eyes to the value of collaboration across borders.”
With continued dedication to global collaboration, CUFS remains committed to fostering students’ growth as future leaders equipped with international vision and cultural insight.
